Accessible Books for the Visually Impaired @ the Internet Archive

The Internet Archive is a website that was previously mentioned on this blog in March 2010 for its WayBack Machine.

This website has made the news headlines once again, this time by setting a goal of having 1 million books digitized in the DAISY format for blind and visually impaired. There are currently almost 400,000 books already listed (warning: site can load a bit slowly).

“Brewster Kahle, the organization’s founder, says the project will initially make 1 million books available to the visually impaired, using money from foundations, libraries, corporations and the government. He’s hoping a subsequent book drive will add even more titles to the collection.
