Periodicals Spotlight: The Writer

If you still live nearby during the summer, why not stop by The Sullivan Library and look at some issues of the magazine The Writer?

This magazine is full of tips for your writing, including short stories, novels, freelance and magazine writing, and more. For example, here is a sampling of the June 2010 issue:

6 Tips for Writing Young-Adult Novels by Nora Raleigh Baskin

Journaling Without the Journal by Michelle Wildgen

Harness the Power of Line Breaks by Marilyn Taylor

When Setting Becomes Character [interview with John Berendt] by Sharon McDonnell

Writing for Military Magazines by Roy Stevenson

How I Write by Daniyal Mueenuddin

There is also a Markets section which offers “listings of agents, literary magazines and publishers, as well as family/parenting and children’s magazines”, and a section on Self-Publishing success tips.

You can also visit the magazine’s website. According to The Sullivan Library’s online catalog, we have access to the magazine from 1991 onwards (the back issues are on microfilm).
